JARDIN DE CHINE
WALLPAPER
BY JANNELLI & VOLPI        26059
Scalamandré by Jannelli&Volpi: an inedited collaboration that gives life to the tale of a journey through the 5 continents, marked by a graphic sign that originates from the classical style of the 19th century. This lovely chinoiserie print was discovered in a small room of the Noble Hardee Mansion in Savannah, Georgia, which has been described as the last unrestored mansion in Savannah. The mansion dates to the 1860s, and the aged, hand-printed paper is thought to have been installed by a decorator who owned the house in the 1960s or 1970s. It was photographed in sections on site, redrawn line by line and matched to its original color of white and gray leaves on a solid field background. The majestic scale, nearly five-foot repetition, and classic bamboo foliage are the result of adapting ancient hand-painted Chinese silk wall panels, interpreted with a loose brushstroke style typical of more contemporary hand prints. New color additions add a fresh look to this timeless design.
